Due to the current economic climate, a number of people have been made redundant and due to government funding, may qualify for funding towards training, to give them a competitive edge in the work place.

Then there are many businesses that want to cut the running costs of their business. One such cost is the accountant’s fees. For those who want to run the day to day bookkeeping and payroll of their businesses, we are now offering practical training courses in the following areas:

Manual Bookkeeping – Full Day
This course is a basic grounding in how to understand simple accounting and the bookkeeping necessary to run a small business. It is a step by step approach to filing, correctly recording day to day information such as sales, purchases, bank and cash transactions. It includes vat and double entry bookkeeping and is backed up with relevant exercises to reinforce the learning process. At the end of the day, the students will work through a complete scenario to pull together everything that they have learned.

This course can be split into half a day, if the business only requires understanding how to run petty cash, how to keep a cash book and how to reconcile the bank account. This would be suitable for small cash based businesses.

Sage Line 50 Accounts – Full Day
This course covers how to use the software to record the daily running of the business. It starts with setting up the business details and navigating the menus, then progresses to setting up customer and supplier accounts, nominal codes, how to raise invoices and credit notes, then moves on to bank and cash accounts. It continues with setting up recurring entries, journals and understanding the Chart of Accounts. By the end of the day, you will have worked through an entire scenario based on all the usual transactions that a small business would encounter.

Payroll – Full Day
This course covers manual payroll in the morning and computerised payroll in the afternoon. Manual payroll deals with tax codes, National Insurance, contracts of employment, holiday entitlements, the interaction between the employer and the Inland Revenue, different forms used, minimum wage, a brief overview of Statutory Sick Pay, Maternity Pay, Adoption Pay and Paternity Pay, Attachment of Earnings and important dates and deadlines pertaining to payroll throughout the year.

The afternoon will be spent applying the knowledge gained during the morning session by learning Sage Line 50 Payroll. This will provide practical exercises on how to set up the company, including different types of pay elements and deductions, qualifying days for SSP, department analysis. You will check current government legislation within the software, set up employee records and allocate the correct pay elements and deductions to each one. You will run the payroll by changing the process date, entering payments, running necessary checks, printing wage slips, printing various reports, saving and finalising payroll, the printing the P32 with the companies liabilities due the Inland Revenue.

This course can be split into half a day if necessary, if only one element of training is desired.

Please note that we can provide as much training or as little as is necessary. Each business is unique in its requirements and we aim to meet those requirements.
